South African Vinyl Culture and DJing Survey 2026
Share your thoughts with us!
South Africa has one of the most influential and evolving music cultures in the world — from jazz, soul, kwaito and deep house to underground vinyl movements and crate-digging communities that continue to shape global sounds.
We’d love to hear your views on the current state of vinyl collecting, vinyl DJ culture, record preservation, vinyl events, collector communities, and the future of vinyl culture in South Africa.
This survey aims to document the voices, experiences, challenges, and stories of DJs, collectors, selectors, record store owners, promoters, audiophiles, and music lovers across the country.
We are also exploring important topics affecting the local vinyl movement, including:
• Rising vinyl prices
• Limited local availability
• International import challenges
• Customs duties and courier issues
• Vinyl preservation and grading knowledge
• The future of South African music heritage
Take our quick 8–12 minutes survey and help preserve an important part of South African music culture.
As a thank you, one lucky participant could win a R1000.00 voucher to spend at their favourite local vinyl store or vinyl-friendly bar.
Your voice matters. Your culture matters. Your records matter.
